Detection for Disc Cutter Wear of TBM Using Magnetic Force

To replace the worn-out cutter of tunnel boring machines timely, it is crucial to inspect cutter’s wear. In this work, a novel detection method based on magnetic force proposed overcome drawback nonlinearity in current detecting technology. The principle that between and permanent magnet linearly decreases with increasing Firstly, investigated by finite element simulation find optimal placement realize both high linearity sensitivity. Secondly, highly-sensitive sensor an S shape designed measure force. four strain gauges are combined into Wheatstone bridge suppress common-mode effect, such as temperature. Experimental testing performed verify feasibility method. result shows wear loss at rate −793 mN/mm. accuracy approaches 1 mm, which same order magnitude those previous studies.
